Model Ordinances
Well crafted ordinances that respect individual rights and serve to protect resources within a community are often in short supply. Many ordinances have been ‘on-the-books’ for years and have long since outlived their effectiveness. Getting state and local governments to update, or in some cases, simply enact an ordinance can prove to be a challenging task. On the following pages we offer some samples and models of ordinances that some of the more responsive and responsible municipalities have updated or strengthened. Some of the models offered may not be a ‘perfect’ fit for each city and/or town, but they do incorporate many key components suitable for adoption with minimal modifications. Files are presented in .pdf format for easy download.
